I'm finding myself thinking of another one of their tenets right now: the Rule of Three. The idea is that whatever you put into the universe will come back to you threefold. So, if you're putting good stuff out, lots of good stuff will come back to you. And if you're putting bad stuff out... Well, you know.
If that's true, I must have put some pretty bad stuff out there recently, because my last few weeks have not been the bestest.
To summarize, without getting into the drama of it all:
- My husband lost his job, so writing and freelance stuff is suddenly our sole source of income.
- Broken garage, broken fence, broken car.
- Cat required $1200 surgery to remove a bowel obstruction.
- And my son has been throwing up near-constantly since 4am this morning.
Okay. Look, universe. Whatever I did? I'm sorry. I take it back.
It sounds dramatic, but it's really not all bad. My husband's out of a bad situation now, and it gives me more time to focus on writing, which I've been having a tough time fitting into our family's schedule. It also allows me to return to graphic design (something I haven't gotten to do in months).
The garage, fence, car, and cat things are very blah, but my kitty is okay, and thanks to a few good months of royalties, it didn't put us into debt. My savings account isn't a pretty sight, but we're in the black.
And the vomiting will pass. Someday. At least we have no choice but to catch up on our laundry now!
Life is still very good, of course. I have no major complaints. We have a happy family, a good house, plenty of food to eat, and I'm supporting my family doing what I love (even if the money situation is a weensy bit tenuous). I don't think it really gets any better than that.
Anyhoo, I'm kind of circling the point of this post like my son's barf swirling around the drain (sorry, gross mental image, but that's what I've been dealing with for six hours), so I'll get to it.
I finished Blood Moon Harvest!
Yep, episode 2 of The Cain Chronicles has been wrapped up. I'm sitting on it for a day or so before digging into major edits, but this means it will be with you guys very soon. :) Sooner than it would have been if my husband hadn't lost his job--but later than if my son hadn't gotten sick. Heh.
This also means I'm cracking down on Dire Blood, the next book in The Descent Series. I'm making good progress and I think I'll finish it ahead of schedule. Maybe a December release instead of January? No promises yet, but I'm optimistic. I'll even have a cover to show you guys soon!
In the meantime, I'm going to be thinking very good thoughts in the direction of the universe. Hopefully a little bit of that will orbit back in my direction.
